Two major neural plexuses that comprise the enteric nervous system are the myenteric Auerbach plexus and the submucous Meissner plexus which have the capability to maintain basic intestinal function even in the absence of control by the external autonomic nervous system. It is composed of epithelium connective tissue lamina propria.
